FAQ

GENERAL

(1) Q. What do I need to install and use the Tonexcellence ToneX presets?

(1) A. In order to install these presets, you must already have a PAID and installed version of the Mac OS or PC/Windows IK Multimedia ToneX software. These presets cannot be installed on a mobile, tablet or trial version of the ToneX software. You only need the ToneX hardware pedal if you intend to transfer presets from the software onto the pedal for live performance or transporting the sounds for use in another studio.

(2) Q. How do I install the presets after I have purchased and downloaded them to my computer?

(2) A. Instructions for loading ToneX presets into the ToneX Mac or PC software application (please note – the desktop application has been redesigned (version 1.7x or newer), so this should be the NEW import method for the current software):

1) – unzip the files and save them to a folder of your choosing on your computer.
2) – open the ToneX software application on your computer (not your phone or tablet).
3) – navigate to the “Home” tab (left) or the “Librarian” tab (right).
4) – click on the drop-down menu below “Home” (“My Preset”).
5) – from the drop-down menu, select “Import Preset”.
6) – navigate to your folder where you unzipped and placed your Tonexcellence presets.
7) – select one or more “.txp” (preset) files to import.
8) – that’s it – they should now appear in the Preset column of the player and can be transferred to the pedal, saved under a new name to make further edits, etc.

(3) Q. Why were most of the amplifier presets not captured with a speaker cabinet?

(3) A. Unless we have a particularly unique speaker to capture with an amplifier, we found it more useful to capture the amp-only and add speaker cabinet IR’s from the vast selection available with ToneX and third party IR’s. Our tests showed that in most cases, a captured speaker is not an improvement on what is available as an add-on cabinet. And in practical use, players often seek a different cabinet sound to suit their particular taste. Plus it makes it easier to disable the cabinet from a preset or exchange it with a different IR.

(4) Q. What if I want to modify the preset or rename it?

(4) A. Fortunately, that is very simple to do with the ToneX software. Presets can easily be saved under a new name, creating a duplicate that can be freely edited. In this way, you can create as many variations of a preset as you like.

(5) Q. Do you have any free models I can try with my guitar?

(5) A. We do offer a few samples of our models, which can be found on our user page at Tone.net. Keep in mind that what we are selling here are finely-tuned presets that optimize the sound of the models. The models being shared on Tone.net do not have all of the EQ, compression, gain, reverb and noise gate adjustments which are built into our presets.

(6) Q. Some of your ToneX preset bundles only include one or two captures while others include many more. Why is this?

(6) A. Each piece of hardware we capture is unique; and while some amplifiers, for example, have many different modes and sounds, others have one or two main characteristic sounds. We know that players who use our presets are looking for the very best sound that particular amplifier or pedal has to offer; and are not interested in sifting through a bunch of presets that don’t sound optimal for what that particular amp or pedal was designed to do. So it is a judgement call for each piece of hardware we capture. The good news is that once you have purchased and downloaded a preset (or several), there are many adjustable parameters you can tweak to make that preset just right for your playing style; being able to generate many more variations and presets from just one.

(7) Q. Pages on your website appear to load slowly, get stalled and I do not see any of the YouTube demo videos displayed. What is causing this?

(7) A. If you are using a VPN, it may be blocking elements of this site from displaying properly. Try turning off your VPN, refresh the page and see if that fixes the problem.

PURCHASES

(8) Q. Do you offer refunds?

(8) A. Unfortunately, no. Because this is a digital download product, there is no way we can verify a return and removal from your computer and/or pedal(s). However, if for any reason you have purchased our presets and cannot download them; or if the files are corrupted, upon verification of your purchase, we will email you a replacement copy of your purchased product(s). Please contact us HERE if you have any problems.

(9) Q. How can I know what your presets will sound like before I buy them?

(9) A. As you probably noticed, every product page has audio / video demonstrations which cover most of the preset sounds included in each preset pack. If you cannot see the embedded YouTube videos and you are using a VPN, trying turning off the VPN while on this site and refresh the page to see if that fixes the issue. And again, there are also a few models to try for free on our Tone.net page.

(10) Q. Is my payment secure on this website?

(10) A. Yes. We utilize a secure SSL payment method through Squarespace Payments or PayPal.
